Digits ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Digits handles your information when you use our expense tracking application.

Our Privacy-First Approach

Digits is built with privacy at its core. All your financial data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your personal or financial information with third parties or our servers.

We want to be clear about what we DO NOT do:

Data Storage

Local Storage Only

All data created in Digits is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:

• Expense records (amount, description, date, category)
• Budget settings
• Categories (default and custom)
• Currency preferences
• App settings

No Cloud Sync

Digits does not sync your data to iCloud, our servers, or any third-party service. Your data exists only on your device.

Device Permissions

Digits requests the following permissions to provide its features:

Microphone Access (Optional)

• Purpose: Enable voice-to-text expense entry
• Usage: Records your voice temporarily to transcribe expense details
• Processing: All speech recognition is performed on-device using Apple's Speech framework
• Data Retention: Audio is not saved; only the transcribed text is temporarily used
• Control: You can deny this permission and still use the app with manual text entry

Speech Recognition (Optional)

• Purpose: Convert your spoken words into text for expense logging
• Processing: Performed entirely on-device using iOS Speech Recognition
• Data: No audio or transcripts are sent to external servers
• Control: You can disable this feature at any time

Face ID / Touch ID / Biometric Authentication (Optional)

• Purpose: Secure app access to protect your financial data
• Usage: Uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework for biometric verification
• Processing: Performed entirely on-device by iOS
• Data: Biometric data never leaves your device and is managed by iOS, not Digits
• Control: You can enable or disable this feature in app settings

Camera Access (Optional)

• Purpose: Capture receipts for expense logging
• Usage: Takes photos of receipts for AI-powered expense extraction
• Processing: Image text extraction (OCR) is performed on-device using Apple Vision framework
• Data Retention: Images are not saved; only the extracted expense details are temporarily used
• Control: You can deny this permission and still use the app with manual entry

Photo Library Access (Optional)

• Purpose: Select existing receipt images from your photo library
• Usage: Allows you to choose photos for expense extraction
• Processing: OCR and AI parsing performed on-device
• Data: Only the selected image is temporarily processed; no photos are uploaded
• Control: You can deny this permission and still use the app

AI and Machine Learning

Digits uses on-device AI powered by Apple Intelligence and Foundation Models to:

• Extract expense details from voice input
• Parse receipt text from photos
• Suggest expense categories based on descriptions

Privacy Guarantee: - All AI processing happens on your device - No data is sent to external AI services or cloud servers - AI models are provided by Apple and run locally - Your expense data is never used to train AI models

Third-Party Services

Digits does not use any third-party services, including:

• No analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
• No advertising networks
• No crash reporting services
• No social media integrations
• No payment processors (the app is currently free)

Data Security

Local Encryption

• All data is stored in your device's secure app sandbox
• iOS automatically encrypts data when your device is locked
• Face ID/Touch ID adds an additional layer of app-level security

No Network Transmission

• Digits does not require an internet connection
• No data is transmitted over the network
• All features work completely offline

Your Data Rights

Data Ownership

You own 100% of your data. It exists only on your device.

Data Access

You can export your expense data anytime using the in-app CSV export feature.

Data Deletion

To delete all your data: 1. Go to Profile → Export Data (optional: backup first) 2. Delete the Digits app from your device 3. All data is permanently deleted with the app

There is no server-side data to delete because we don't store anything outside your device.

Children's Privacy

Digits does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since we don't collect any data at all, the app can be used by all ages. However, parental guidance is recommended for financial education purposes.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with a new "Last Updated" date at the top. Continued use of Digits after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
